The Pipe for Santa Monica Pier desalinizes 1.5 billion gallons of drinking water for California

seawater desalination using solar energy

Land Art Generator initiative design competition for Santa Monica Pier was filled with a lot of designs. One of the finalists for LAGI was from Canada named as Khalili Engineers. Their project was a pipe like model which provides solar power to desalinize seawater using electromagnetic desalination techniques. This pipe is beautifully designed and it will shine as bright in the sea.

The major by-products of this solar-powered desalination unit are clean drinking water and clean water with 12 percent salinity. This brine water is again going to thermal baths and then redirected to the pacific ocean.

According to the Khalili Engineering team, this structure can produce 4.5 billion liters of drinking water per year. This can be used to solve the drinking water scarcity in California forever.
